Weekend Trip and Friday's Fancies

Happy Friday!! I hope you had a great week.  I am headed to Atlanta today to spend the weekend with my best friend Kristin. Our husbands are both attending the same bachelor party this weekend (they are at the GA/FL game) so we are having a girls weekend in ATL! Kristin and I met in college, were sorority sisters and she has been my best friend ever since! Here are some pictures of Kristin and I at my sister in law's wedding in March!

Isn't she so pretty? I love my BFF! I am seriously looking forward to a weekend of manicures, shopping (window for me since I am still in my no shopping month), movie watching and eating!

I was so sad that I missed Friday's Fancies at Long Distance Loving last week, so this week I'm back! This week the theme of Friday's Fancies is Halloween. I am not dressing up this year so I am dressing up vicariously through my outfit this week. I saw these gorgeous red sequin Louboutins on Pinterest and immediately thought of the Wizard of Oz! So, here is my modern day twist on Dorothy.

Are you dressing up for Halloween? I hope whatever your plans are, that you have a wonderful weekend!  See you next week! xoxo

DIY Gift Wrap Ideas

Thank you SO much for everyone's sweet wishes for our anniversary yesterday! We had such a fun and relaxing day at the spa and had a quiet dinner at home. It was perfect!
So last week I was in Michael's  for my monthly weekly trip and could not help but notice the overwhelming amount of Christmas decor that was lining the shelves.  It seems like the Christmas season comes earlier and earlier each  year, and although I won't decorate until after Thanksgiving I try to start my shopping and wrapping as early as possible.  I love wrapping gifts and giving a beautifully wrapped gift is one of my favorite things to do!
I have been pinning unique gift wrap ideas like crazy so I wanted to share some of the ideas that I will be using this Christmas for the Vintage Apple's Oh How Pinteresting Wednesday!

Our Three Year Anniversary!

It is so hard to believe that three years ago I married the love of my life. It has truly been the best day of my life and the last three years have been incredible! Today Kris and I are taking the day off from work, going to the spa (could not be more excited) and just relaxing all day. I thought it would be fun to re-live our wedding day with some of my favorite pictures from our destination wedding in Grand Cayman.

Weekend Wrap Up Via Instagram

Hi loves! I am so sorry I was completely MIA last week; I missed you! It was one of those weeks where I had no spare time after work, but my week was still amazing. We had two birthday celebrations for my husband Kris' 34th birthday and I took a weekend trip with Terri, Kris' mom, to Mt Dora for their annual craft show.  So I am linking up with Ashley from A Little Dash of Ash for her instagram party to re-cap my week/weekend.

On Thursday night we threw Kris a birthday party at this amazing Michael Mina restaurant called Bourbon Steak in Miami. As you may already know, my husband has been growing a moustache with several of his friends for a bachelor party next weekend (and then he is shaving it, praise the Lord!). Anyway, I decided to throw a "stache bash" for his birthday with unique moustaches for each guest! We ate an incredible dinner (my lobster pot pie is below) and laughed at our funny moustaches. It was an incredible night!

On Friday Terri and I drove up to Orlando and we went to the Mt. Dora craft fair with several of Kris' other family members that live in Orlando. Mt. Dora is an incredible small town with beautiful antique stores, bed and breakfasts and a huge craft fair that is put on once a year.
We ate lunch at the cutest Garden Gate Tea Room. Their menu was amazing (top left) and I had the best pumpkin bisque (bottom left). There were so many unique vendors including someone who made jewelry holders from wedding china (top right) and a man with a chicken hat (bottom right) ha!
I found a couple of pieces for our house that I am really excited about. I love this "you are my sunshine" wooden art piece from a vendor called Go Jump in the Lake, and a Chanel inspired vintage window for our guest bedroom. I also found a vintage suitcase and Coca Cola wooden tray from a large antique mall.

Now I need to figure out where all of these pieces will go in our house! I hope you had a great weekend and have a wonderful Monday!

My Travel Bucket List

Last night, Kris and I sat down to create our travel bucket list. We both have a major case of wanderlust and it was so much fun dreaming about all the trips we want to take together! Granted we have a long time before we can do all of them, but it is so much fun to dream and plan for these trips! Here are a few of the experiences on our 50+ destination bucket list.

What are some of the places on your travel bucket list?

On another note, today is my love, Kristofer's birthday! Tonight we are going out to Sra Martinez in Miami just the two of us and then we are having a big dinner with our family and friends on Thursday! I have some fun surprises for him this week I will share later...can't wait!

Real Simple Pumpkin Soup

Hi loves! I hope you had a great weekend. This weekend I had a work event with Kris on Friday night, and then on Saturday we walked to support the Hope Women's Centers at their Walk for Life and then watched the Gator football game at a friends house. Ever since I have been married to Kris I have really gotten into football and it is so hard to see our teams (Dolphins and Gators) lose so much! Oh well, we can only go up from here!

Sunday was such a relaxing day. After church Kris and I watched episodes of Fringe on DVD (if you have not seen it I totally recommend it!) and I made a fall themed dinner. I was reading Real Simple this weekend and saw the below recipe for a pumpkin soup that looked too good to not try! I also made butternut squash risotto and we drank apple cider (:

The ingredients that I used are below. Real Simple has a tutorial on peeling and seeding a sugar pumpkin which was really  helpful here

Here is my final result! Definitely make sure you add paprika if you like that flavor, it adds a needed kick to the soup!

Here is the recipe that I used...

Serves 4Hands-On Time: 20m Total Time: 50m

Ingredients

  • 3-pound sugar pumpkin or 3 pounds kabocha or butternut squash—peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 5 tablespoons olive oil
  • kosher salt and black pepper
  • leeks (white and light green parts only), chopped
  • 4 to 6 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • sour cream, croutons, and paprika (preferably smoked), for serving
  • Directions
  • 1. Heat oven to 400° F. On a rimmed baking sheet, toss the pumpkin with 3 tablespoons of the oil, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Roast, tossing once, until tender, 20 to 25 minutes.
  • 2. Meanwhile, heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the leeks and cook, stirring frequently, until tender, 4 to 6 minutes. Add the roasted pumpkin, 4 cups of the broth, and ½ teaspoon salt and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • 3. In a blender, working in batches, puree the soup until smooth, adjusting the consistency with the remaining broth as necessary. (Alternatively, use a handheld immersion blender in the saucepan.)
  • 4. Top the soup with the sour cream and croutons and sprinkle with the paprika.

I hope you have a Happy Monday!!

Friday's Fancies - For Under $40!

Happy Friday!! This week was particularly busy, but I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I am linking up with {av} at Long Distance Loving for Friday's Fancies, but this week I put a budget friendly twist on my outfit, and everything below is less than $40! Kris and I have been really serious about sticking to our budget, and this month I actually gave up shopping all together - crazy for a shopaholic such as myself, but I am still holding strong on day 14!

So I wanted to put together an outfit that would be realistic for me to actually wear on a fall day while drinking a pumpkin spice latte!
Bag: H&M, $34.95

I hope you have a wonderful weekend loves! See you next week! xoxo Meggan

Southern Soiree

In August I told you that my brother in law is getting married to one of my dearest friends Melinda (here). Well the wedding is coming up in February and we are starting to plan her Fort Lauderdale bridal shower. We are throwing the shower at one of my favorite restaurants called The Mason Jar. Because the Mason Jar serves amazing southern comfort food, we are throwing a Southern Soiree themed bridal shower complete with sweet tea, banana pudding and of course, mason jars!  These Pinterest pictures are my inspiration for the shower!

What do you think? I would love any suggestions that you have for a southern inspired shower!
This week I am linking up with the Vintage Apple again for her Oh How Pinteresting Wednesday link party! Happy Wednesday!
