Bridal Shower Recap

Happy Monday loves! This weekend was such a whirlwind. I am so excited to finally be able to tell you about the bridal shower that I have been involved in planning for my future sister in law, Mel.  With the exception of a wardrobe malfunction (my dress ripped completely up the side, 5 minutes before leaving for the shower), everything went so smoothly!

I spent just about $100 on the decorations so a lot of the decor was handmade. I think handmade touches make an event more personal and are a great way to be cost conscious. Below are the pictures that I took of the shower decor and events.

The favors were designed by my dear friend Katie. We gave each guest a mini coca cola bottle with a hand made tag that included a favorite bible verse, 1 Corinthians 13:13.

Each guest had a white pom flower at their place along with a menu that I designed.

Place cards matched the menus

This chalkboard love story board is one of my favorite DIY projects from the shower. It was only $3!  Tutorial to come later this week.

For the centerpieces I used vintage glasses and bottles with a variety of different pink and white flowers. I wrapped each container in burlap, lace and/or bakers twine and they were placed on round wood slices (I found mine at Michaels). Because we had a very limited budget, this was an easy way to create fullness and interest in the centerpieces. Here are some more pictures of the centerpieces.

I made a burlap banner that hung over the tables, that says Bride to Be!

My lunch, waldorf chicken salad on texas toast, and brussel sprouts with pistachios. It was delicious!

Katie and Mel playing the "He Said She Said" game.

Me explaining the Bridal Bingo game...a great way to keep people involved while the bride is opening gifts! We had some major competition going on!

I had so much fun working on the shower for Mel and I hope you enjoyed the pictures! This week I am linking up with

Friday's Fancies - Blog Swap!

Good morning loves! I hope you all had a wonderful week. This week I am super excited to introduce you to sweet Sarah for the Friday's Fancies blog swap. You are going to love her!

Happy Friday! My name is Sarah and you can find me over at Sunlight After Rain! Over there, I write about my daily {college} life, my theatre major, baking, books, trashy tv and anything else
that may come my way! As a huge Friday's Fancies fan, I was so excited to hear from {av} that I was paired up with Meggan's adorable blog! After chatting for a little bit, we decided that we'd come up with an outfit that would work well at any superbowl party you may be going to next weekend.

As a huge Patriots fan, my immediate reaction to creating an outfit
was to throw on some sweats. But, come on! This is the SuperBowl we're talking
about! It's the biggest day of a football fan's year. So, I decided to come up with a
better way to coordinate my team's colors while still looking super cute!

The colors still support my team but at the same time there is enough shape to the
outfit (especially from the skinny jeans!) that you still look like a girl. The bag allows
you to travel to any party that may be happening that day, but the sandals give you
the versatility to sit, walk or stand around during any party!

I hope you all have a fabulous SuperBowl weekend! Thank you Meggan for having
me - and GO PATS!

Thank you Sarah for sharing that adorable outfit! Definitely the perfect Patriots inspired look! This weekend is the shower I have been telling you about for a couple of weeks now and I can't wait to share all of the projects I have been working on with you next week! Have a great weekend everyone!

Mid-Week Meal - Pulled Pork Sliders

Last night I made dinner for our bible study. When it comes to cooking for groups, I love making easy meals that don't leave me stressed out in the kitchen 5 minutes before everyone walks through the front door. Does that happen to anyone else?! (:
This pulled pork recipe is one of my favorites for feeding a group with out the stress, because all of the cooking basically happens in the slow cooker during the day. I made a basic salad and cole slaw to go with the pulled pork sliders, and my meal was done! Here are some snapshots of our meal and you can find the recipe below.
Here is the recipe!
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Pinch of cayenne pepper, optional
  • 5 pounds boneless pork butt or shoulder
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups barbecue sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 10 to 12 whole wheat soft slider buns
Directions: In a small bowl, mix chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne, if desired. Rub the spice mixture on all sides of pork. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours and up to overnight. Cut pork butt in half; place in a slow cooker and add water. Set on low heat and cook for 10 hours. Transfer from slow cooker to a roasting pan and shred with two forks, removing any large pieces of fat. Pour the broth into a heatproof pitcher or large fat separator, and skim off the fat.
Put the pork back into the slow cooker. Combine the barbecue sauce and 3 cups of the skimmed broth. Stir into pork and cook 2 hours. Using a slotted spoon, remove the pork from the slow cooker. Place the meat on a serving platter or on individual buns. Serve the rema
ining sauce alongside.

Valentine's Day DIY

With each holiday that approaches, I find myself looking forward to trying new projects or recipes to get into the holiday spirit. Here are some of the "DIY" projects from Pinterest and around the internet that have caught my eye for Valentine's Day! First up for me will be the chocolate covered pretzel rods. Delicious and pretty, what more could you ask for (:
Are there any projects that you are planning on trying this Valentine's?
I hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

Friday's Fancies - Pinterest Inspired

Happy Friday everyone! As usual, I am ready for the weekend! We will be staying local and along with doing some shopping for my living room, I will be finalizing all of the decorations for the bridal shower next weekend!  This week Friday's Fancies is focused on inspiration from Pinterest and the blog world. When I first saw this neon dress with black accessories, I was struck by the beautiful contrast. I re-created this outfit by pairing black leather accessories with a neon lime jacquard dress.

Super Bowl Party Style

This year Kris and I are planning to have friends over for the Super Bowl and these pictures are inspiring me to step up our party. From the cookie dough dip and pulled pork sliders, to the pretty but not too feminine decor, this would be my dream Super Bowl party!

Lila Grace Loves...

Happy Wednesday! Today my Lila Grace Loves series continues. This week I am really loving resort wear brights, tortoise shell accents and stripes used in different ways.
1) This Tory Burch Necklace, like all of her pieces, is just perfect. I love the classic tortoise shell mixed with a more trendy tribal feel.
2) I saw this Rebecca Minkoff tote at Nordstrom last weekend and fell in love. The picture doesn't even do the bright and crisp pink stripe justice. I can totally see myself toting this around all spring!
3) Tortoise Shell Salad Servers...need I say more? Amazing!
4) I love finding products that step up household basics like this Savon de Marseille handsoap.
5) Yellow with navy and white stripes is a must as seen this TopShop skirt & wreath.
6) This book is one of my absolute favorites. I actually won I Married Adventure in my first eBay auction! I may have overpaid by a few dollars, but it was so fun to win and this is a great book for styling your home
7) Monograms add a sense of home and a personal touch. This Zush monogrammed pillow does that with out being too serious and it adds a sense of fun!
8) I want to wear this Topshop maxi dress all day long. It looks so much more expensive than it really is and it can be dressed up or down given the occasion.
I hope you have a wonderful day my friends! xoxo Meggan

Slow Cooker Short Ribs

This weekend was relaxing, productive and flew by all too fast! Some of the highlights were dinner/drinks with friends at Tap 42, date night on Saturday (seeing The Girl With The Dragon Tatto and dinner), and making these slow cooker boneless short ribs on Sunday. They were so good and easy to make that I wanted to share the recipe with you! This recipe focuses on just enhancing the flavor of the ribs, but if you want to add more of a barbecue flavor you can use this recipe.
Here is what our final product looked like. The short ribs were cooked so perfectly that we didn't need a knife!
I hope you all have a wonderful Monday! Unfortunately I am working today but I hope that those of you with a three day weekend enjoy your time off! xoxo Meggan

Color Crush!

Happy Friday everyone! Although I am really excited to have a weekend here in Fort Lauderdale, recently I have been bitten by the travel bug. Every year around this time, I am hit with an overwhelming desire to hop on a plane and explore a new destination.
With this in mind, I created my colorful Friday's Fancies look around one destination I have serious wanderlust over, Italy! I love the brightness of the red, pink and orange combination, and I could totally see myself wandering the streets of Italy in this outfit!
Head over to Long Distance Loving to see all of the other colorful looks, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

A Southern/Rustic Bridal Shower

Happy Thursday friends! I don't know about you, but this week has been super hectic and I am really looking forward to the weekend! On Saturday I am diving deep into the decorations for a bridal shower that I am helping to plan for my soon to be sister in law. I told you about the shower a few months ago (here), and now it is just around the corner! I have a limited budget for decorations, but with a little creativity and a lot of DIY projects, I plan for the shower to look something like these inspiration boards below.
Mel, if you are reading this, stop here! (:

This is our color palette on the left, I love the romantic and muted colors!

My Best Friend's Baby Shower

My best friend from college, Kristin, who I told you about here and here, is almost ready to have her baby! She is 35 weeks pregnant and her baby shower was this past weekend in Atlanta. It was hosted by her small group from church and of course I flew up for the weekend.  Kristin and her husband are waiting to find out the baby's gender so the shower had a "pea in the pod" green and white theme. For anyone planning a baby shower, here there are some cute ideas in these pictures below!

Friday's Fancies: Best Foot Forward

Hi friends! This short work week has certainly had its ups and downs, and I am so ready for the weekend. At the end of a chaotic week, I find that a fresh and chic outfit can instantly transform my mood. As I was building this outfit I started with these amazing pumps from J.Crew. Then I added some neutral leather and bright pops of color to complete the look. Be sure to head over to Long Distance Loving to check out all of the fanciful looks!
I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Ikat Inspired

1: Belina Soap, 2: Turquoise Ikat Chair, 3: Ikat Nesting Bowls, 4: Vix Ubud Ikat Coverup Caftan, 5: Rose & Ink Ikat Stationery, 6: Toms Ikat Print Peep-Toe Wedge, 7: Zhush Lola Clutch

Recently I have been coveting all things ikat. I love bright contrast in color it often brings, but at the same time the stripe & field stationery above with muted colors is simply gorgeous. I think what I love most about ikat is that it exudes a sense of adventure in your home or wardrobe, and transports you to places like Bali, India and Guatemala while never leaving your home. However I do think the caftan above would be the perfect cover up for a dream trip to South Pacific {Hoping my husband is reading this!}.

Getting Organized in the New Year

One of my favorite things about the new year is the chance to start fresh and set goals.  This year I am excited about tackling my resolution; I am resolving to become more organized, and this is how I am planning on doing it.

3: Scout Storage, 4: Sugar Paper List, 5: Pottery Barn Baskets

What are your new year's resolutions? Is anyone else joining me in the journey to becoming more organized?! I hope you all have a fabulous second day of 2012!
