Maxi Skirts and Mexican Food

This may seem like the most random blog title, but it summarizes the highlights from my weekend!

Saturday started off with lunch at Seasons 52 with my friend Vicky. I love this restaurant because every item on the menu is less than 500 calories. It makes it easy to eat well. Our next stop was the mall and here is where the maxi skirt part of my story comes in. I have been searching high and low for a maxi skirt that met my very stringent wish list.

Here were my requirements:
1. Long enough - Being 5'10'' is great most of the time, but most long dresses and skirts are WAY too short for me
2. Fun color - I often gravitate towards neutrals and I really wanted a new skirt with a bright punch of color
3. Slimmer fit - Fit is so critical in any outfit
4. Pockets
5. Reasonably priced

Well I found the perfect pink maxi skirt at BCBG...and it was 60% off! Don't you love when the piece you have been looking for is on sale, putting it in your budget? I wore the skirt to dinner on Sunday night with my husband's family. I am so sorry for the terrible quality of the picture, but what do you think?!

It seems like I spent the second half of my weekend eating Mexican food! On Saturday, Kris and I went on a double date with my brother in law and his fiance to Dos Caminos. This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC and they just opened up a location in Fort Lauderdale. They have the best guacamole and prickly pear margaritas!

On Sunday we celebrated my sister in law's adoption birthday at another great Mexican restaurant near the beach. I blogged about Michael's amazing wedding here and her wedding was actually featured on Southern Weddings here and here. Michael is such an important person in my life and I loved getting to celebrate her!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend as well!

The Duchess

There is something so fascinating about the British Royal Family. My interest in the Windsors began when I visited London at the age of 14. The entire trip I hoped that I would randomly run into the Queen! Needless to say that didn't happen. Kate (Catherine) Middleton and Prince William's royal wedding has with out a doubt renewed interest in the Royal Family. Kate Middleton is stepping into her role beautifully and with such style! She has such a classic look and always seems so perfectly polished. I loved following her different looks on their honeymoon tour throughout North America. Here are some of her looks so far from their stop in America.

My Kitchen Makeover

They say that the home is where the heart is. Kris and I learned this when we were renovating our house last year. It was truly a labor of love. One of my favorite rooms in any house is the kitchen. Well when we moved into our house, the kitchen was a total disaster. The following picture may scare you, but this is what our kitchen looked like when we closed on our house.

At first glance I thought we could keep some of the cabinets because I liked the unique details, but upon further inspection we realized that they needed to be replaced. So with that we decided to change everything. I even had my first foray into demolition. Needless to say when I arrived bright and early on demolition day in rhinestone sandals and I was quickly sent to get food for the crew instead. Ha!

After the demolition was complete, we spent countless hours selecting appliances, flooring, granite and cabinets. My design aesthetic is clean, eclectic, and shabby chic. That aesthetic continued into our kitchen as well...here is my "virtual tour" of our updated kitchen. I hope you have a wonderful Saturday! xoxo

Madewell in Miami

I was so excited this morning when I received an email from Madewell saying that they opened a new store on Lincoln Road! I love love love this store for their preppy clothes with a vintage twist, but there was no where to buy it in South Florida. I learned of Madewell when Alexa Chung first did her line for the JCrew sibling. Her style is so unique and pretty that it immediately drew me in! Madewell's summer line is filled with fun and sweet outfits. Here are some of the Madewell pieces on my wish list...Lincoln Road here I come :)

4th of July Long Weekend

Happy belated 4th of July! I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend. We were out of town for Memorial Day weekend, so it was so nice to spend this holiday weekend in Fort Lauderdale. We had a super relaxing weekend that involved fabric shopping in downtown Miami, going to the dog park with our girls, a trip to Costco (note to self - never go to Costco on a holiday weekend again ha!) and grilling out with our family.

On Monday Kris' parents Terri and Larry hosted us, my brother in law Pat, his fiance Me,l and our friends Calvin and Lori at their condo for a 4th of July Celebration. Check out Terri's beautiful table set up!

Super cute place settings!

Love this Godiva truffle shaped like an ice cream cone

We had an awesome menu for dinner; Here is what we ate...
  • Franks Red Hot Buffalo Chicken Dip {found here}
  • Garden Salad
  • Filet Mignon/Rib Eye Steak
  • Garlicky Basil Shrimp Skewers {Cooking with Paula Deen July 2011}
  • Grilled Corn on the Cob {Cooking with Paula Deen July 2011}
  • Pioneer Woman's Best Baked Beans Ever {found here}
  • Mexican Cornbread
  • Apple Delight {this is amazing - recipe coming soon!}
  • 4th of July Cupcakes {found here}
We had sooo much food and I ate like it was my last meal! I was in charge of bringing the baked beans and cupcakes. The Pioneer Woman didn't let me down! I really don't like baked beans however I loved her recipe. The cupcakes were a twist on the traditional dessert as they were served in a jar! I followed a recipe by Tomkat Studios that can be found here. Their cupcake jar was much prettier than mine but I was still really happy with how they came out. I think I want to try this recipe again but with red velvet cake and white frosting!

After we ate dinner we walked to the roof to watch the fireworks. We could see the fireworks on Fort Lauderdale beach and several other cities. It was beautiful!

I have been so MIA and have really missed blogging; I am so happy to be back! Happy Tuesday!

xoxo
